A superb 18th-century wine glass with a round funnel bowl above a single series opaque twist stem consisting of a white multi-ply corkscrew edged in vivid blue. Conical foot with snapped pontil.
Excellent, no chips cracks or restoration. Height: 15.2cm Rim diameter: 5.6cm Foot diameter: 6.8cm.
English colour twists from the 18th century are both rare and highly sought after, blue being one of the most desirable. This is a Dutch example and you will notice that it has an irregular foot shape with a'dent' at one section. This is not damage or restoration but happened in the cooling oven when the glass was still soft and the foot was knocked into another glass or the base as it went through the annealing process. There are also some very thin hairline strands of trailing on the bowl, again from manufacture. The entire glass is in unrestored original condition.
The air that follows the upper corkscrew is accidental but a nice feature. The item "Dutch 18th Century Blue Colour Opaque Twist Wine Glass c1760" is in sale since Tuesday, August 31, 2021.
