Each glass is individually signed. They feature a square base with a graduated three section turned stem and vertical oval facets in the body of the glass.Hawkes made three versions of the St. George pattern and this is by far the scarcest of them and the only one with the graduated stem and square base. Hawkes is a glass company based in Corning, NY. Epitomized as the finest cut glass company in production, creating over 300 outstandingly beautiful cut and engraved stemware patterns. Born in Ireland, Hawkes immigrated to Brooklyn in 1862, and then moved to Corning to work for the Hoare and Dailey Cut Glass Firm.
He opened his own cut glass firm in 1880. Soon became famous for quality wares. Hawkes' glassware was used in the White House from 1885 until 1938. In 1903, he brought Frederick Carder from England to establish the Steuben Glass Works. All items come from a smoke free home.
